Lycian Way Cost Breakdown 2026 — Budget, Comfort, Luxury
"How much does the Lycian Way cost?" gets the same vague answer everywhere. Here are real 2026 numbers in euros and pounds, broken into Budget, Comfort and Luxury tiers, with the hidden costs nobody puts in the headline figure.
The headline numbers (14 days)
| Tier | Total € | Total £ | Per day € |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget self-guided | €600–840 | £510–710 | €42–60 |
| Comfort supported | €1,260–1,820 | £1,070–1,540 | €90–130 |
| Luxury guided | €1,820–2,800 | £1,540–2,370 | €130–200 |
Excludes flights, travel insurance and gear you don't already own. We add those in a section below — they're the costs most blog posts skip.
Budget self-guided — €600–840
Pensions: €20–30/night in family-run village pensions, half-board (dinner + breakfast). Lunch on trail: €5–8 for gözleme, fruit, bread, ayran from village shops. Transfers: €30–60 for the dolmuş chains between sections. Permits/entries: minor — a few archaeological sites at €3–5. Water and snacks: €3–4/day.
This is the price most experienced backpackers pay walking the classic 14-day route west to east. You sleep in pensions, not camping; camping wild is technically possible but only saves €5–10/day and ruins your back. See our pension directory for booking direct.
Comfort supported — €1,260–1,820
You walk the same route but pay a local operator to pre-book every night and move your luggage between pensions. Daily cost jumps to €90–130 because you're paying:
- ~€25 luggage transfer/day (driver + vehicle on rough mountain roads)
- ~€10 booking margin so the operator picks up the phone when something breaks
- ~€10 upgrade to mid-tier pensions (private bathroom, better breakfast)
- Same food and entrance costs as budget
Worth it for first-timers, families and anyone walking with a partner who needs the safety net. See operator pricing at tours.html.
Luxury guided — €1,820–2,800
Fully guided with a licensed Turkish guide, upgraded pensions (where they exist — the Lycian Way doesn't have many 4-star hotels), all transfers included, often a chase vehicle for water and snacks, full meals included. Daily €130–200 reflects mostly the guide's day rate (€80–120) plus the comfort upgrades.
The premium isn't the rooms — it's the guide and the coordination. If history and ease matter more than money, see licensed individual guides.
Hidden costs nobody mentions
- Flights to Antalya/Dalaman · €120–400 from UK/EU. Cheapest May/October mid-week.
- Travel insurance with hiking cover · £30–80 for 2 weeks. Standard policies often exclude trekking above 2000 m — check the Tahtalı Dağı stage if you're going east.
- Gear if you don't have it · €150–400 minimum (boots, pack, sleeping liner, poles). See our seasonal packing list.
- Cash buffer · €100–200. Many pensions in remote sections don't take cards.
- Rest-day food and accommodation · if you take 2 rest days in Kaş or Olympos, add €80–150.
- Section-skip transfers · the road between Antalya and Olympos taxis run €60–90. Worth it if you injured your knee in the western mountains.
True total — what you should budget
For a UK or EU hiker doing a comfortable supported 14-day trip in May 2026, plan on €2,000–2,400 all-in per person (including flights, insurance, gear top-ups and a reasonable buffer). For pure budget self-guided, you can come in under €1,200. For luxury guided private trips, the all-in figure pushes €3,500.
What makes prices go up in 2026
- Turkish inflation is back in single digits but local food and pension prices have ratcheted up 15–20 % year on year for three years running.
- The euro is now the de-facto currency for many pensions on the trail (lira accepted, but pricing in €).
- Fuel costs push luggage-transfer pricing up ~5 %/year.
Where you can save without ruining the trip
- Skip the western mountains if you're new — the eastern coast (Faralya to Kaş, our 7-day beginner itinerary) is half the gear cost and 70 % of the experience.
- Fly into Antalya, not Dalaman — flights are usually €40–80 cheaper.
- Walk the shoulder weeks (early April, late October) — pensions discount 10–15 % vs peak.
- Book pensions direct via our directory rather than through booking.com — the pension keeps 15 % more, and you'll often get a better room.
